Dear Editor:

We recently celebrated the opening of our newest Spring Creek Greenway trail segment. Walk the trail from Precinct 4’s Rothwood Park to City Place in northwest Harris County. Explore the forests and wetlands and hike through the master-planned community. Learn more about this unique trail below. Recognize with me our Precinct 4 Encore employees for their hard work and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Your Encore team spent 55 weeks working with Harris County Public Health to coordinate testing and vaccination sites throughout Precinct 4. Throughout the pandemic, they assisted our seniors through phone calls, helped locate food for those in need and continued offering drive-thru recreational events. As senior adult trips and activities resume, we excitedly embark on the next chapter in our recovery. Big Stone Lodge and Mangum-Howell Center now offer all the activities you know and love. Visit us in person to eat, dance and celebrate. We also feature a variety of summer events and activities to keep you entertained all season long. I hope to see you in person at our parks and community centers.

 Dear Editor:

Ecclesiastes 3 tells us of appointed times … “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck what has been planted … … a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) Additionally, in the appointed time, Jesus came into the world. “But when the appointed time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman, made under the law.” (Galatians 4:4) God has laid out the future of this world for us in the Book of the Revelation … All prophecies in the Bible concerning the Christ have come to pass, and it is therefore reasonable to believe the Lord will also bring about the prophecies of the Book of Revelation. God is eternal. He doesn’t have a past nor does He have a future. He is the eternal and great “I AM,” the ever-present. Time was His creation; therefore, He is not subject to it. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (Revelation 1:8). He sees all things from beginning to end, and nothing escapes His eyes or knowledge. For lack of patience or whatever, we are rarely on His time schedule. This is why we see so many so-called prophets (false prophets, self-proclaimed and worthless) saying all kinds of weird things … political and otherwise. But the Lord has His appointed times. He knows exactly when to do what. So, what are we to do? Jesus said to “watch and pray” (Matthew 26:41, Mark 13:33, Mark 14:38, Luke 21:36). Be steadfast in and alert to His promises, don’t be anxious, but trust in the Lord Who has all things in His hands. We are His children (those who are born-again), He is our Father, our Lord, our Master, and our Savior … He takes care of His own. Don’t be lured off the straight and narrow by false prophets … They are making a lot of money off the backs of unsuspecting Christians and others. They only give us false hopes. The only true prophets are in the Bible (Jeremiah, Isaiah, Daniel, and the likes). The false prophets of today never tell you to repent, to trust, and to obey the Lord. They are never on the Lord’s time schedule and prove it by never being right about what is coming up, or not coming up. The Lord has His appointed times. He cannot lie or be hoodwinked. We are to trust (to trust is to obey), watch, and pray.

 Dear Editor:

Competition can have undesirable consequences. Example: I suspected that several students in the 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Accounting classes I was teaching were cheating on exams; so, I created four exams (8A, 8B; 9A, 9B). All four exams looked, but weren’t, identical. I passed them out so students sitting next to each other got different exams (8A or 8B; 9A or 9B). Fifteen students got the right answer to the wrong exam. For example, one who got an 8A exam got the right answer to the 8B exam, and one who got a 9A exam got the right answer to the 8A, 8B, or 9B exam. I brought the students into my office one at a time, and I asked the student to show me how he or she got a specific answer. When they could not show me, I asked, “Did you cheat on this exam?” Some answered Yes immediately. For the others, I continued asking the student to show me how they got their answer. One student insisted for 20 minutes that he did not cheat, but eventually he admitted cheating. Charlton, I hope the doctor you choose who graduated at the top of their class based on grades did not cheat their way through school. Some do. Dr. Deming removed the incentive to cheat by announcing on day 1 of class, “Every student in this class will receive the same course grade: Pass.” An employer can determine for himself a job applicant’s qualifications, as Haller did at Bern, Switzerland’s patent office when he hired Einstein, after a grueling 2-hour interview.

Dear Editor:

If you live in a subdivision, particularly a village in Kingwood, there are deed restrictions. Those restrictions are there to maintain order in your neighborhood. Example: if you want to change the exterior color of your house, you have to submit the proper paperwork for approval. The United States is one big village. There are rules (laws) that are to be followed in order to maintain order in the country. That applies to immigration. “Paperwork” must be filed in order to receive approval to enter our country. While you may not receive approval to change the exterior color of your house, one may not receive approval to immigrate to the U.S. I suspect that a majority, if not everyone, in the U.S. agrees that others should have the opportunity to immigrate to our country. A big percentage of us believe in legal immigration, not just an open-door policy with no approval. Just image what your neighborhood would look like without deed restrictions: abandon cars, unkept lawns, non-compliant additions to houses, etc. As far as saying we need immigrants to pick our crops and perform the menial manual labor jobs, that sounds condescending to me. It has been proven that when you flood the country with cheap / illegal labor, it depresses wages. If you want to increase wages, eliminate illegal labor, not pass a federal minimum wage law. When I was a teenager, I mowed lawns and worked as a busboy, my son and a buddy had a lawn service when they were in high school. There is a young man (age 15) in my neighborhood that has started a power washing service: trash cans, fences, driveways, etc. Because we have allowed unchecked (illegal)  immigration into our country, we have reduced those opportunities for our youth (and others). Not following the rules typically has consequences. Then there is the issue of (illegal) drugs coming across our Southern border.

Dear Editor:

Economic inflation, a.k.a. “Bidenflation” has been and continues to soar and our president and Congressional Democrats continue to press for massive government spending by multiple more trillion$. Where are their minds? Kamala has failed miserably as Biden’s southern border czar, yet he seems totally oblivious to that egregious omission that even a blind person could ‘see’ ? Why hasn’t he replaced her as she has had six (6) plus months to correct the massive invasion from Central American and possibly even the world? The pathetic irony is that Biden himself caused this crisis on his first day in office with one of countless executive orders repealing Pres. Trump’s existing agreements with Mexico that had illegal immigration largely under control. The women and girls of Afghanistan are certainly headed for the most cruel and unusual lives again when the Taliban takes control of that government in a few months, if it even takes that long. Any Afghani who assisted the U.S. military there over the past 20 years will be promptly tortured and slaughtered if they are not allowed to come to the U.S. What is Biden’s plan for them, if he even has one? Lastly, it has recently been admitted by ‘our’ government that the federal prosecutor of Hunter Biden’s dubious, if not criminal activities, deliberately delayed all legal action a(nd publicity) prior to last year’s election so that the Biden campaign would not be negatively impacted. The most incriminating evidence for any such action has been found on Hunter Biden’s laptop that the FBI has had in its possession for well over a year now. Why no action by the FBI? The DoJ? The main stream media? Why hasn’t said prosecutor be disbarred or worse? What has happened to our country?
