HPD reminds airport travelers to protect vehicles
- Written by Jeffry Tupa
With Spring Break starting next week for much of the area, the Houston Police Department has a message for airport travelers: have a good trip, but do not forget to lock your vehicle and hide your valuables. Beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, police officers from HPD’s Airport Division will distribute theft reduction report cards on motorists’ windshields, giving them a pass or fail grade as to whether they leave vehicle doors unlocked, windows opened or cracked, and if valuables are in plain view. Burglaries of Motor Vehicles (BMVs) are among the most easily preventable crimes. Citizens are encouraged to lock vehicles and hide belongings to remove any temptation to would-be thieves. The effort is part of the HPD’s ongoing “March on Crime” campaign. For more safety information, visit the HPD website at www.houstonpolice.org and click on the “Keep Houston Safe” logo.
