Lone Star College-Kingwood student Luis Aleman is a budding artist with a desire to become a comic book author. Now, thanks to the Lake Houston Area Artists, he is one step closer to achieving that goal. LHAA (formally Kingwood Art Society) recently awarded Aleman a $300 scholarship as their choice for promising student of the arts in 2014.

Judges commended Aleman for his ability to handle of variety of subject matter, his skill in the use of value ranges from light to dark and his attention to design and detail. Pictured are samples of his work with charcoal and graphite. Aleman will be the honored guest and receive his award during the LHAA annual dinner in December.

LHAA has been active in promoting the arts in the local area for nearly 30 years.  Membership is open to area artists of all abilities. For more information, visit lakehoustonareaartists.com
