Lone Star College-Kingwoods Fine Arts Gallery will feature selected works from art students in the Annual Juried Student Art Show through July 24. The show is sponsored by the Durdin Family, owners of Parkway Family Mazda and Kia. The Juried Student Art Show will include artwork produced in studio art classes during the 2013-2014 academic year. The students art work will be judged in three categories: Photography, 2-D (Design I, Design III and Drawing) and 3-D (ceramics). The show is a part of the studio art class curriculum. Credit students who win first, second and third place in each category will be eligible to win cash scholarships for the second year in a row, thanks to the Durdin family. The art show will welcome James T. Hill as guest juror. Hill is currently the Sculpture Department Head for The Glassell School of Art, at the MFA, Houston/University of St. Thomas. He has also served on the faculty at The University of Houston in sculpture and interdisciplinary studies and is the recipient of multiple grants and awards such as Artadia, Houston, The Idea Fund, Houston and HAATX Artist Fellowships. We are very pleased to have Mr. Hill as our juror, said Kris Larson, gallery director. His experience teaching and his collaborative work within local communities demonstrate the power of art to create connections and positively affect relationships and the quality of life in our neighborhoods and cities. OnJuly 10, a reception and awards ceremony will be held in the gallery, located inside the Performing Arts Center, room 114 atnoon. All gallery events are free and open to the public. We are very grateful for the generosity and support of the student show sponsors, the Durdin Family and Parkway Family Mazda and Kia, Larson said. They are longstanding supporters of Humble ISD and education. They also sponsor higher education and the arts by providing additional financial assistance and services to students and families throughout the Humble, Atascocita and Kingwood communities.
