The engineering program at LSC-Kingwood trains graduates to enter various fields such as medical, construction, energy and transportation.

Engineering is more than just constructing processes; it's about creating a better society.

"Engineers find tangible solutions to make life better for everyone, including designing better roads and transportation systems and providing energy, clean drinking water, and food to the world's growing population," said Dr. Jamie Turner, an engineering professor at LSC-Kingwood.

The LSC-Kingwood engineering program offers a variety of courses for anyone who is inventive, enjoys science and wants to make a difference. Students can earn a two-year associate of science degree in five specialties: biomedical, civil, electrical, industrial and mechanical. The degree can either stand alone or transfer to a Bachelor of Science program at a four-year college or university.

"This program uniquely prepared me for the educational path that I am on. I learned computer software skills and methods that other colleges, like HCC, do not teach well," said Taylor Knight, a 2015 LSC-Kingwood engineering graduate. Knight is currently a student at the University of Texas-Tyler and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

The engineering program will train graduates to work in various fields such as rebuilding infrastructure, renewable energy, oil and gas extraction, robotics, and more. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, average median salaries for a two-year engineering associate degree starts at $50,620 and increase to $137,720 for positions requiring a bachelor's degree.

"While we are prepping students for gainful employment, we also have a responsibility to promote ethical and environmentally clean technologies to safely provide for humanity's needs," Turner said. "There are so many areas that engineers can make a great impact from helping the deaf to hear to building bridges, homes and needed infrastructure. The future is in our hands."

The engineering program at LSC-Kingwood teaches students valuable skills such as design, development, research, testing, analysis, production, sales and technical support. Degree programs can be customized for individual transfer needs. For additional information, visit lonestar.edu/engineering-dept-kingwood or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
