Lone Star College (LSC) - Kingwood Discovery College offers a variety of fun and educational camps to keep children ages 8-18 entertained this summer.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Discovery College will take place online only. Registration is now open and courses will run from June 15-July 16. Children are engaged in key areas like science, technology, engineering, art and math. All programs are taught by LSC faculty who are certified and experienced in teaching online classes.
“The purpose of Discovery College is to provide summer enrichment programs that allow kids to focus on their passion and have an increased interest in learning,” said Pat Chandler, Continuing Education director.
The LSC-Kingwood Discovery College online programs offered this summer are Around the World Art, Create Your Own Short Film, Dive into Digital Media, Fun Math for Kids, Game Design, Geology Rocks!, GeoTech Adventures, So You Want to be a YouTuber?, Web page Development, and 101 Amazing Science Facts.
“I hope that Discovery College provides each child with a positive learning environment. Classes should encourage students to explore and cultivate an interest in the STEAM field while nurturing creativity and imagination to promote a lifelong desire for learning,” Chandler said.
The online programs will hold a maximum of 10 students to ensure one-on-one interaction with the instructor. Classes are “live” and held at convenient times throughout the day. Programs are divided into teaching sessions no longer than two hours. Also, a secure Videoconferencing tool, Cisco WebEx, will be used to guarantee reliability and consistency in the virtual classroom.
Discovery College programs are offered at each LSC campus, including LSC-Kingwood. All courses cost $115 each and are available weekly. To register for LSC-Kingwood Discovery College, to view available camps, or to fill out and submit forms, visit lonestar.edu/youth-classes-kingwood.
