Lone Star College-Kingwood’s Discovery College offers a variety of fun and educational camps to keep children ages 7-12 entertained this summer. Discovery College will take place June 8-25 and July 6-9. Parents are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible as spots fill up fast. Registration will take place in the Technology Instructional Building (TIB) lobby. Children are engaged in key areas like science, technology, engineering, art and math. Participants can also take courses in physical activity, performing arts and more.
“The purpose of Discovery College is to provide summer enrichment programs that allow kids to focus on their passion and have an increased interest in learning,” said Pat Chandler, Career and Technical Education director.
Registration for Discovery College begins March 2. Programs offered this summer are Advanced Robotics, Air, Sea and Space Exploration, All-Sports Camp, Around the World Art, Crafty Creations, Fantastic Food and Divine Desserts, Faster, Higher, Stronger: Rocket Science, Elementary Robotics, Game Design, Get in Motion with Animate, Go, Speed Racer, Introduction to Watercolor Painting, Junior Docs, Lone Star CSI, Mad Scientist, and More Fantastic Food and Divine Desserts.
“I hope that Discovery College provides each child with a positive learning environment. Classes should encourage students to explore and cultivate an interest in the STEAM field while nurturing creativity and imagination to promote a life-long desire for learning,” said Kelly Corino, camp manager.
Parents can drop off and pick up their children at the Administration and Performing Arts (APA) entrance. Students staying for lunch or attending the morning and afternoon sessions must bring a sack lunch. Courses are available every week, Mondays through Thursdays, with morning and afternoon sessions starting at $115 each. To register, parents/guardians need to submit completed consent and registration forms for each child.
