The Lone Star College-Kingwood Career Services department strives to helps students and job seekers become marketable hires for area businesses.
Career Services offers a myriad of services such as resume reviews, career exploration, job search tips, and other resources.
“Our goals are to help individuals clarify academic and career goals, establish career plans, develop effective job-search skills, and make successful career transitions,” said Donna Washington, career counseling manager at LSC-Kingwood.
In addition, Career Services hosts free career fairs to help match job seekers with their ideal employers. The next event will take place Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 12-3 p.m. in the Student Conference Center (SCC) Atrium. Companies will be on-site to recruit for a variety of entry-level positions and some employers will hire on the spot.
“I hope that employers will take advantage of the opportunity to hire our talented, hard-working and ambitious LSC-Kingwood students and alumni,” Washington said. “I hope that prospective employees will use this event to showcase their education and skills to gain the full-time and part-time positions that they seek.”
The LSC-Kingwood Career Services department hosts at least two career fairs each academic year and provides free resources to students and the business community year-round. Job seekers should dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes. They are also encouraged to visit employers’ websites and fill out applications before the event.
“The purpose of this event is to continue the college’s commitment to serving our community by providing a platform for our students and community members to meet local employers,” she said.
Businesses that will participate in the career fair include Lone Star College, Houston Airport Marriott, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Enterprise Holdings, Waffle House, Inc., Humble Fire Rescue and Primrose Schools at Lakeshore and Summerwood. “To highlight the connection between acquiring fulfilling employment and furthering one’s education, the LSC-Kingwood Admissions department will be present to address enrollment questions,” Washington said.
