HOUSTON (Aug. 10, 2017) –Lone Star College-Kingwood hosted a Cosmetology Reverse Job Fair on July 24, which highlighted 28 cosmetology students’ talents.

The event was a unique twist on the traditional job fair format. Students, who graduated on Aug. 3, were stationed at tables while prospective employers moved from booth to booth. The LSC-Kingwood Career Services department organizes job fairs like this one as part of its “From Admission to Position” mission.

“This unique event format challenges the student to put their best foot forward and really put their talents on display, said Tracie Kamenoff, student services director. “The salons also really liked this format; they just had to show up and look around. Several of our students received job offers from salons at the event.”

Representatives from 25 salons across the Greater Houston Metro Area attended the event. Students met with hiring managers from: Above the Rest Barber & Beauty, Blo Blow Dry Bar, Color Boutique, CHI/Farouk System, Great Clips, In Color Salons, JC Penny Salon, Mills Branch Salon & Spa, Modern Salon, Sanke, Shear Madness Haircuts for Kids, Sport Clips, Super Cuts, Super Weave Xpress, Sweet & Sassy Salon, Celebrity Hair Styles, Texas Hair Team, Toni & Guy, Ulta Beauty, and Visible Changes.

In addition to career networking, the Cosmetology Reverse Job Fair also featured a design contest. Salon representatives judged students on their mannequins’ hairstyles and table decorations. Mojgan Rezazadeh, Nancy Martin, and Helen Ford were the top three winners and received prizes donated by Great Clips, Visible Changes, Sport Clips, and Marianna.

“In addition to hosting job fairs, Career Services is a great place for overall job and career preparation,” Kamenoff said. “With engaging workshops preparing students for interviews and a team of staff to help give a competitive edge to student resumes, LSC-Kingwood is pushing the limits to help students reach their potential and outshine the competition.”

LSC-Kingwood Career Services is housed in Student Services, whereby ongoing initiatives empower students to reach their personal and academic goals. The mission is to invest in students, through innovative programs, so they possess every tool necessary to be successful.
