Extra space is needed in the theater department’s trophy case after the cast and crew of “Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet” earned numerous awards at the 2017 Play Festival.
Lone Star College (LSC)-Kingwood’s theater production earned an overall rating of excellent. The Play Festival is the annual two-year college festival hosted by the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association (TCCSTA). It is the benchmark for excellence in production at the two-year college level.
The cast and stage crew earned individual awards for their role in “Goodnight Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet.” Katherine (Kat) Espin earned excellence in acting; Taylor Kenney received superior in stage management; Joshua McElroy earned superior in stage management (assistant); Marissa Mascolo received superior in costume design (assistant) and superior in hair/make-up design; Allison Nauert earned two superior in scenic design awards, the “Greg Schneider Memorial Award for Technical Excellence” and the inaugural “John Charles Corley Outstanding Tech Presentation Award;” and Eric Skiles received superior in costume design.
LSC-Kingwood’s Theatre Department strives to create high-level, professional-looking productions. In the nine years that the department has attended TCCSTA’s Play Festival, it has earned four superior ratings, three Greg Schneider Memorial awards for technical excellence, and two Bill Morton Challenge awards for acting.
LSC-Kingwood’s next production is the 11th annual “Evening of Shorts.” It will run April 19-22 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22-23 at 2 p.m. in the college’s Black Box Theatre.
