Council of PTA hosts Wellness Walk

The Humble ISD Council of PTAs wants to increase awareness of the importance of being active, healthy individuals and community members, by putting the Wellness Walk event together as a fun way to increase wellness awareness in our schools, the community and among families. The event was held March 5 at 9 a.m., at Kingwood High School. Participation was open to the public and all ages were invited to walk the 4K. Muffins, lunch, shirts and goody bags were provided for all registered participants. Water and a medical first aid station was available. All proceeds will go toward supporting scholarships for high school seniors to support further education. A prize will also be awarded to the school with the most participants. Gina Remmes, Council of PTAs President, said, “We are raising money for scholarships for graduating seniors out of the Humble Independent School District. This is our Second Annual Wellness Walk and we are hoping it will continue. The first year we only had about eight walkers, this year we had more support. I want to thank everybody for the support but more importantly that everybody will jump on board next year, also.” “Humble ISD Council of PTA’s is putting the Wellness Walk on for a couple of different reasons,” said Tim Hartnett, chairman. “The donations we receive are to support scholarships for high school students, the other reason is to increase awareness of the need to be active. There are reports in the news today about problems with obesity and not being active enough, we are hoping just a walk will help to increase awareness of that. We’re hoping that there will be an increase of awareness of the event, so over the years we will grow. I think we have good coverage from the groups that are helping us out, that have donated their time and money, like, My Fit Foods and Kingwood Nutrition. I think they understand that the event will grow one day, and hopefully, if it grows, one day the track will fill up with people.” For more information visit www.humbleisdwalk.com.
