Wonderful Windows and Siding answers economic challenges

Wonderful Windows and Sidings has serviced the Houston area since Feb. 13, 2001, and specializes in the sale and installation of residential and commercial windows and siding, including double-paned and storm windows, Hardiplank and vinyl siding. This original ‘mom and pop’ business has continued to provide an answer to the challenge of tough economic times that have felled many Houston-area businesses, both large and small. According to owners, Phillip and Paula LaGrappe, the key to survival lies in honesty, integrity and dignity. Phillip LaGrappe also attributed the success of the business directly to the quality of customer service rendered by his entire staff. “We provide wonderful service and we have the number one team in the city,” said LaGrappe. “All employees work for us and not other contractors. We have people in the office until 8 p.m. We have the best certified and factory-trained installers. We provide timely service, allowing seven to 10 days to get the product installed.” He added that his company offers a lifetime warranty on any part of the windows, including glass or seal failure, and there are no hidden costs. “Nine years ago I ran my business out of a corner of my bedroom with a desk and a phone, then from a 300-square-foot office, and now from an 8,000-square-foot building in Katy,” said LaGrappe. “We have grown from one employee to a six-person office staff, 10 Hardiplank crews and 16 window crews.” The Houston-area location is currently housed at 1701 East Avenue in Katy and is a Better Business Bureau accredited business. Additionally, the business has blazed trails of expansion into other market areas such as Austin, Beaumont, Dallas, San Antonio and League City. This growth has not been without a struggle. LaGrappe noted that 2006 was a tough year for the business. “I had to make conscious decisions. I rolled up my sleeves and brought the business back from $1 million in debt to zero debt in a two-year span,” he said. The result of LaGrappe’s financial tenacity can be seen in the current stability of the company. “This economy is not affecting Wonderful Windows and Sidings,” said LaGrappe. He added that sales are up 30 – 38 percent every year, and that there have been no layoffs within the ranks of his employees. “We will have three showrooms in the next six months,” LaGrappe projected, “and we are expanding into Hardiplank Color Plus siding.” He added that Wonderful Windows and Sidings is Plygem-Home Craftsmen Windows number one dealer in the Houston area. They were also recently featured in Reliant Center’s Texas Home and Garden Show and will be featured again at the Lake Houston Home and Garden Show Feb. 19 and 20 and the Woodlands Spring Home and Garden Show Feb. 19 and 20.
