Addi’s Faith fighting childhood cancer with 5K race

Addi’s Faith, a foundation dedicated to education and research for childhood cancer, is becoming one of the leading non-profit organizations fighting for the cause. The personal driving force behind the foundation is founders’ Amber and Tony, struggle when their daughter, Addison Faith Bender, was diagnosed with an a-typical Teratoid Rhabdoid brain tumor in June 2007. In honor of their daughter, Addi’s Faith will be hosting the second Walk by Faith 5K race/walk Sunday, Nov. 7 at Alexander Deussen Park in Summerwood. By hosting a 5K run/walk and 1K fun run, for the younger ones, Addi’s Faith Foundation hopes to raise awareness for the epidemic of childhood brain tumors, as well as provide financial assistance to families struggling to care for a child with cancer. “We are always here and willing to help families who need support for kids with cancer. Hopefully the whole community can come together so that we can get bigger and stronger by the day,” Amber Bender said. Currently about $7,000 has been donated to the MD Anderson Hospital, from Addi’s Faith, to fuel continued research into finding possible cures for forms of childhood cancer, according to Bender. According to MD Anderson’s Children Cancer Center, brain tumors in children are much more widespread than many would assume. Mostly detected between the ages of three and ten, brain tumors affect nearly 1,500 to 2,000 children in the U.S. every year. There are a variety of cancers that can strike those before they even have the chance to reach adolescence. Research for cures and education on disease treatments are a vital part of the fight against childhood cancers across America. Addi’s Faith Foundation’s 5K run gives community members the opportunity to venture out in the fresh fall air and support a cause that can affect thousands of children and families across the country. “We hope that the community will come together to take Addi’s Faith as far as possible,” Bender said.
