Strikepoint of Texas, a community handbell organization founded in 1991 by director Melanie Bankston, is gearing up for their annual Christmas concert. It is the only organization within the Handbell Musicians of America that consists of two, full, five-octave teams which practice separately but perform together. This year, Strikepoint will be celebrating 20 years of bringing quality musical entertainment to the community. Over the last two decades, Strikepoint has performed in many locations throughout the world. The teams have performed in the capitol rotunda in Austin, and at various venues in our nation’s capital, including the Lincoln Memorial. They have also traveled to Europe on several occasions, performing in Austria, Belgium, England, Germany and Scotland. In hopes to generate greater interest in the art of handbell ringing, and broaden the community’s musical appreciation, Strikepoint extends an invitation to anyone who would like to see their performance to join them on Dec. 2 and 3 for their annual Christmas concert, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. on both evenings. Both concerts will be held at Kingwood First Baptist Church, located at 3500 Woodland Hills Drive. This year’s Christmas concert will also feature a chamber orchestra, which will add to the already unique experience only Strikepoint of Texas can provide. “This is something that the community would really enjoy,” said Bankston. “It is a very entertaining way to start off the Christmas season, and is quite musically exceptional. There is really a lot more to it than you might think.” While preparing for what promises to be a stunning performance, Strikepoint is also holding auditions for the teams.
