– First and third place wins captured – Four area high school students recently traveled to Los Fresnos for a statewide police explorer competition. The students are members of the Law Enforcement Explorer’s Post No. 901, which is sponsored and trained by the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s office. Team members Xavier Galvez, Neann Luna, Terry Thomas and Johnny Riano competed against 27 Explorer teams sponsored by other police departments throughout the state of Texas. Explorer Post No. 901 was escorted by their police advisors, Precinct 4 deputies Robert Goree, Christina Coronado and Derek Thorworth. Spring ISD police officer Jamie Lutz also traveled with the team to assist as an advisor. Precinct 4 Lt. F. Escobar said the Explorer team, under the sponsorship of Constable Ron Hickman, received first place in police bicycle agility and third place in DWI Traffic Stops at the July 31 competitions. “This is wonderful, especially because this is the team’s first competition since its inception in June,” Escobar said. Explorer Post No. 901 was created this year to serve the young men and women who want to learn law enforcement skills. The post is open to all students living in North Harris County who are interested in joining. According to Escobar, the post will compete in several area events for police explorers within Texas and may even travel out of state to compete if the opportunity arises and if funds are available. “We are actively looking for donations from the area,” said Escobar. “There are currently 15 Explorers enrolled in Law Enforcement Explorer Post No. 901, which is a non-profit organization hosted by the Precinct 4 Constable’s office, and is a chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. The program provides law enforcement training and understanding to community boys and girls between the ages of 14 and 21. Members of the post meet and train weekly gearing up for police skills competitions throughout the state.” For more information, or to make a tax-deductible donation to Law Enforcement Explorer Post No 901, contact advisors Deputy R.
