For those who cherish the holidays – and the decorations, gift-giving and flavor that come with them – the Kingwood Women's Club Holiday Marketplace will be the place to be Oct. 27 and 28.
Members of the club have been hard at work preparing for this annual fundraiser. To add a bit more sparkle, it's all for a good cause – several good causes as a matter of fact.
“This year’s event is going to be the best one yet,” said Sandra Fountain, the club's publicity chair. “Our silent auction packages include wonderful trip destinations, and we are excited to bring back favorite vendors, as well as several new vendors that we know everyone will love. Our goal is to raise more than $105,000 for area charities and organizations.”
Attendees will be met with the sights, sounds and smells of all things festive for the holidays. Vendor booths will include holiday decorations, jewelry, food, clothing and accessories, gift items and much more.
A favorite is always the silent auction, where eager shoppers place the raffle tickets they have purchased in a receptacle beside the items they hope to win. A drawing is then held at the event and squeals of excitement can always be heard as the names of the lucky winners are announced. Tickets can be purchased at the event; five for $5. Participants need not be present to win.
There will also be numerous door prizes provided by participating vendors given away throughout the day Oct. 28. Entries may be placed in the drawing as attendees enter the event. There is no cost to enter, but winners must be present to win the door prizes.
The Marketplace will be held at the Humble Civic Center, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway. The Preview Party will be Monday, Oct. 27, from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $25, must be purchased in advance, and include entry into the full-day event on Tuesday. Guests will enjoy wine and refreshments while getting the first look at the shopping extravaganza. The highlight of the evening will be a silent auction which will include trips to some amazing destinations.
On Tuesday, Oct. 28, attendees will enjoy a full day of shopping from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A delicious luncheon catered by Carrabba’s will be served to those who purchase Luncheon tickets. There will also be Snack Shop, offering sandwiches and snacks for purchase. A limited number of $25 luncheon tickets are available, which includes admission to the show. Luncheon tickets must be purchased in advance.
General admission tickets for $8 are available in advance or may be purchased at the door for $10.
Raising funds and volunteering to help in the community are nothing new to this hardworking group of women. They've been busy since 1985, and have raised close to a million dollars during the course of their efforts spanning the past 25 years. From a modest group of big-hearted ladies at its inception, Kingwood Women's Club now has more than 130 active members.
Among the charities supported by the club, to which the proceeds of the event are given, are: Humble Area Assistance Ministries, FamilyTime, Feed My Lambs, the Kingwood Library, Lone Star College scholarships, Project Mammogram, Society of St. Stephen, The Gathering Place and Mission Northeast.
Tickets to all events can be purchased from any Kingwood Women’s Club member or by visiting one of their retail partners at Sterling Events/Alspaugh's Ace Hardware, 2720 West Lake Houston Parkway, or Dragonfly Boutique, 19250 West Lake Houston Parkway, Suite J (cash & checks made payable to “KWC” only). Tickets can also be purchased online with a credit card through kingwoodwomensclub.com, where more information and a complete list of the club's charities can also be found.
Cutline: Enjoying last year's event, which raised more than $100,000 for local charities, are Kingwood Women's Club members Bobbie Wells, left, and Clotile Berlin, this year's club president.
