The Rotary Club of Kingwood announces that they are soliciting post-graduate applicants to apply for the $30,000 "2015-2016 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship."   This scholarship is also known as the Rotary Global Grant Scholarship, and is awarded by Rotary District 5890.

Students that are entering their senior year of college and will graduate by May 2015, or students that have already graduated college and are seeking their post-graduate degree, can submit their application to Kingwood Rotary.  Details about the scholarship and the application can be downloaded by visiting their website at www.kwrotary.org.
The scholarship recipient must begin his/her academic program in August/September 2015 (if attending a college located in the northern hemisphere) or January/February 2016 (if attending a college located in the southern hemisphere.) 
"Since 2009, Kingwood Rotary has sponsored two successful scholarship applicants that have received a total of $54,000 as Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars to study abroad," said Kingwood Rotarian Tommie Buscemi. 
"We sponsored Tom Mendez, a student that grew up in Kingwood, which was selected as a $24,000 District 5890 2009-2010 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar and studied at Pontifica Universidad Catholica Argentina in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Kingwood Rotary's second scholar, Daniella Romera, received a $30,000 2012-2012 Rotary Global Grant Scholarship and studied in Geneva, Switzerland at the Graduate Institute of International Education and Development Studies (IHEID)," said Buscemi.  For both Tom and Daniella, it was a life-changing experience.
Since 1947, a total of $532 million Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships have been awarded to 41,000 men and women worldwide.
This scholarship is designed to support an individual that has exhibited a passion for public service. It is intended to support a course of overseas studies that will enable the individual to be a more successful leader in their chosen field of study, and service.
The $30,000 scholarship is made to an exceptional individual through a competitive application and interview process.  To be eligible, post-graduate candidates must present a master’s or doctoral degree plan of study and a career commitment that addresses one of the Rotary Foundation’s six humanitarian areas of focus:
Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
Disease Prevention and Treatment
Water and Sanitation
Maternal and Child Health
Basic Education and Literacy
Economic and Community Development

The minimum amount of the scholarship is $30,000 and covers the following expenses:  Tuition, inoculations, medical insurance, travel expenses, school supplies (books, workbooks, etc), room and board, household supplies, transportation, and study-related travel.
Applicants can attend an event on Saturday, September 20th to learn more about the scholarship if you RSVP to Tommie Buscemi with the Kingwood Rotary Club.  October 1, 2014 is the deadline for applications to be received by the Kingwood Rotary Club via mail to P.O. Box 5606, Kingwood, TX 77325.  An appointment will be arranged for an interview.  One candidate will be selected to advance to the District 5890 Scholarship interviews on November 8, 2014.
While abroad, scholars will represent Kingwood Rotary Club, Rotary District 5890, Rotary International, the State of Texas, and the United States of America.  They will also give presentations about their homeland and area of study to Rotary clubs and other groups while abroad. Upon returning home, scholars share their experiences with local Rotarians and others.

The qualities of a successful Global Grant Scholar applicant are: 
Possesses excellent leadership skills and potential
Has a proven record of success in her/his academic field or vocation
Has demonstrated a personal commitment to community service
Has well defined and realistic goals
Has concrete ideas as to how she/he will make advances in her/his chosen career
Is sincere about maintaining a lifelong relationship with Rotary after the scholarship year
