Cutline: Kingwood Medical Centers ICU Nurses Laura Holder and Kristil Wright with CEO Melinda Stephenson, Donate Life Physician Champion Dr. Turuvekere Jayaram, ICU Nurse Wanda Alsbrook, and Life Gift Specialist Denise Van Kuiken, provide a personalized message of hope attached to a rose vial that adorned the Donate Life Rose Parade Float on New Years Day. Kingwood Medical Center participated in the first-ever CEO Donate Life Rose Parade Float Campaign. Hospital CEOs provided personalized messages of hope and remembrance honoring donors, recipients and others touched by organ and tissue donation to adorn the Donate Life Rose Parade Float on New Years Day in Pasadena, Calif. Since 2004, the Donate Life Rose Parade Float has served as a memorial to organ and tissue donors and is a platform for donor families, living donors and transplant recipients to inspire the world to save and heal those in need through the gift of life. The 2014 Donate Life Rose Parade Float entry featured a festival of lanterns illuminating 30 riders We are honored to join LifeGift in honoring organ and tissue donors from our community by providing a personalized message of hope for transplant recipients and donor families for the Donate Life Rose Parade Float, said Melinda Stephenson, CEO of Kingwood Medical Center. According to LifeGift Specialist Denise Van Kuiken, from 2012-2013 at Kingwood Medical Center, there have been nine organ donors with 32 organs recovered and transplanted. Thats 32 lives saved. There have been 23 tissue donors (bone, skin, veins, tendons and heart valves). Up to 50 people can be helped/saved by one tissue donor.
