The Lake Houston YMCA will hold the annual Bridge Fest on Feb.1, 2014. Bridge Fest is a celebration of the opening of the Lake Houston Parkway Bridge which links the communities of Kingwood, Atascocita and Humble - a 5K (3.1 miles) race for runners, joggers and walkers of all abilities and ages. Net proceeds benefit the YMCA annual scholarship campaign of the Lake Houston Family YMCA and East Montgomery County YMCA. Three races will be offered: 8 a.m. 1/2 Mile Kids Race for ages 6 and under; 8:30 a.m. 1/2 Mile Kids Race for ages 7-12; and the 9 a.m. 5K Run and Walk for all ages and abilities. Children participating in either of the Kids Races may also participate in the 5K at no additional charge. However, only one event will be timed. All runners will be given a chip to record their exact time as they cross the finish line. If a runner does not wear a chip, they will not be timed. Chips will be distributed the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m. and must be turned in at the completion of the race. The race will start and finish at the Lake Houston Family YMCA, 2420 West Lake Houston Parkway, Kingwood. A post race awards ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the YMCA gymnaisum for all participants. Bridge Fest participation is a positive healthy activity that will not only challenge your children’s ability but also teach them the importance of helping their community. The elementary school that has the highest percentage participation of their total school enrollment at Bridge Fest will receive a trophy to display at their school for a year, have their group photo in next year’s brochure and their school name engraved on the Bridge Fest plaque hanging at the YMCA. Packets for those who register before Friday, Jan. 31, will be available at the Lake Houston Family YMCA that day, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Late registration will continue up to 30 minutes before the start of each race.
