May 28, 2020 – Eastex Fire Department received four pallets of rice, totaling 6,000 bags, May 28. The rice will be given out to local families who stop by one of the four stations, limit six packages per household.
“We were surprised and excited when a representative from Riviana Foods contacted us to see how they could help our community with a food donation,” said Heather Schwalbach, facilities manager for Eastex. “We coordinated a drop-off at our stations with them, so residents could just
stop by and pick it up if they need it.”
The rice, 8.8-ounce bags of Mahatma Jasmine Rice with Quinoa, was generously donated by Riviana Foods. Any rice that remains after the scheduled pickup will be donated to Star of Hope Mission, which got its start in Houston in 1907.
Residents can come by any of the fire stations June 11 from 1-5 p.m. and park out front. The rice will be brought out to residents’ vehicles as they arrive. Station 16 is located at 14415 Old Humble Road; Station 26 is located at 8523 E. North Belt Drive; Station 36 is at 15602 Woodland Hills Drive and Station 46 is located at 6930 Cypresswood Point Ave., all in Humble.
