Fall is the most spectacular time to bring the family or a group for a fun-filled outing to Old MacDonald’s Farm. The Pumpkin Patch, which opened Oct. 1, is an annual event that is sure to bring a smile to every child who visits the farm. Situated on 15 acres off FM 1960 East, Old MacDonald’s Farm is an outdoor recreation park for children of all ages. “The Pumpkin Patch at Old MacDonald’s Farm runs from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31,” owner Mitchell Wilkerson said. “The Pumpkin Patch is guaranteed through the 31st and whatever pumpkins we have left over after that will be given out until we run out. Each kid with a paid admission to the farm receives a complimentary pumpkin during their visit!” Visitors to Old MacDonald’s Farm will encounter 12 petting zoo barns, a train ride, pony rides, a swimming pool and many other activities, all safely confined within an eight-foot fence with only one entry/gate, which is monitored by staff at all times. Favorites of young visitors are the hands-on petting zoo areas with a variety of animals including goats, sheep, cows and pigs. Also, exotic animals such as deer, llamas, emus and a tortoise are popular residents. Feed for the animals can be purchased for $1 per bag, and visitors are also allowed to bring bread to feed the ducks at the pond. Calling ahead will guarantee a reserved gazebo to fit almost any size gathering for occasions such as birthday parties, church gatherings or large company outings. Groups and families are invited to pack their own picnic baskets or purchase food, drinks, ice cream and other items at the concession stand. Playgrounds are plentiful and include a sand mountain complete with sand toys; Fort Apache and an Indian Village; plus a hay barn for old-fashioned fun. Old MacDonald’s Farm, which opened for the first time in the spring of 1991, includes all the various activities for the admission fee of $9 per person for a one-day pass, with infants less than 18 months admitted free. A special group rate of $7 per person (minimum of 10) is passed on to schools, day care and church groups with reservations and for special occasions. For groups requesting a private gazebo, a deposit of $85 is required, which includes admission for 10, plus a $15 charge for the gazebo. The schedule for gazebo reservations can be found on their website, and the deposit amount is refundable, if cancellation is made prior to the day of the party. Old MacDonald’s Farm is open starting at 10 a.m. daily March 1 - Oct. 31. During the winter months (November – February) the park is open weekends only; however, it is suggested that prospective visitors call to confirm first. Old MacDonald’s Farm is located at 3203 FM 1960 East in Humble and can be reached at 281-446-4001, or visit oldmacdonaldshumble.com for more information.
