With so many memories in life, one might have trouble remembering some of the details. With scrapbooks, those details are presented in photos and captions, allowing the creator to capture the moments of their life with each page. Beginning this fall, adults of the area have the opportunity to learn how to do this with a new class at the Kingwood Community Center. With pages like “favorite foods” and “loves of my life,” the new “All About Me” scrapbooking class offers a fun way for adults to learn how to preserve memories through photos. The instructor, Nanette Wroe, wants to provide students with the skills they need to make a scrapbook full of memories. Wroe taught scrapbooking classes in Ohio and began teaching to friends and neighbors when she moved to Texas. She also taught at Lone Star College’s Academy for Lifelong Learning for a few years. This scrapbooking class will be her first time teaching at Kingwood Community Center. Wroe says the commuunity center is offering this class in order to benefit older people who can devote their time to more activities than work. The class also aims to help people record their thoughts and memories so that they may share them with their families. “It’s really important when you have pictures to put them in a notebook and label them so you and your family will always know what you accomplished in your life,” Wroe said. The class will be on Thursdays, starting Aug. 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and will continue for an eight-week period. Participants may choose to attend class regularly or work at their leisure to finish their book. Registration is now open, and may be done in person or online. The cost of the class is $25. Materials and a book will be provided for each student, according to Wroe. The Kingwood Community Center is located at 4102 Rustic Woods Drive. For more information, call 281-348-2570.
