Local event planner receives professional award Jill Vidal, of Elegant Beginnings in Atascocita, received the 2012 Event Professional of the Year award from the National Association for Catering and Events on July 11. Tax office partners with YMCA The Harris County Tax Office is partnering with the YMCA of Greater Houston to conduct a school supplies drive throughout Harris County. All sixteen area Tax Office branch locations will serve as drop-off sites. “Operation Backpack” will run through Aug. 11. The goal is to provide school supplies to 55,000 children. Atascocita BizCom The Lake Houston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a BizCom Aug. 1 at Atascocita High School. Lake Houston Chamber hires communications manager The Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce selected Colleen Merritt to be its Technology, Communication and Marketing Manager. Merritt holds a Master of Arts from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and is a former senior communications specialist for CBRE. NCIU anniversary reunion “Graduates” of Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) are invited to celebrate the 19th anniversary of the NICU, and attend the reunion which will be held Sunday, Aug. 11, 1 – 3 p.m., at the Humble Civic Center. The annual reunion is hosted by Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital and the Northeast Hospital Foundation. It will be held in the Civic Center’s Special Events Room, and will include kid-friendly refreshments, clowns, balloons and more. Harris County District Clerk’s Office to provide passport services The Harris County District Clerk’s Office will offer acceptance of passport applications starting  Aug. 1. Walk-in customers may apply in Room 170, the court registry section, on the first floor of the Civil Courthouse at 201 Caroline. Clerks will be on hand weekdays from  9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Appointments may be made by calling  713-755-7300. standard fee for passports will be $110 plus $25 for processing. Passport photographs will cost $10. Houston Realtors says home sales continue to rise The Houston Association of Realtors announced a study showing that housing sales in the area rose for the 25th month in a row despite supply leveling off in February, and prices are rising as well. East Montgomery County Chamber meeting coming up The Community Chamber of Commerce of East Montgomery County is asking for anyone interested in attending its monthly luncheon in August to RSVP soon. The luncheon will be held Aug. 7 at 11:30 a.m., and while it is open to the public, an RSVP and a $15 fee are required in order for the Chamber to handle catering needs. The meeting is held in the in the East Montgomery County Improvement District building off of Highway 59. Humble ISD Child Nutrition Department wins national award Humble ISD’s Child Nutrition Department was recognized by the School Nutrition Association as the 2013 national winner of the Successful Practices poster showcase July 16. The district was recognized for its poster titled “Team Approach to Managing Food Allergies,” which highlights the importance of including child nutrition professionals along with school nurses, parents, physicians and others in implementing procedures that keep children with life-threatening food allergies safe.
