This past Memorial Day weekend marked the 35th anniversary of the Kingwood based Pet Ranch. “The Kingwood, Humble and Atascocita area has been great to us,” said co-owner Jan Stevens. “We've been fortunate to enjoy 35 years of loyalty and being part of a great community.” Pet Ranch, a pet supply and grooming store located in the Kings Crossing shopping center, specializes in being “a small store with big store perks,” and offers a wide variety of products and services, including grooming. “The best part of running Pet Ranch is the ability to be involved with the community on a personal basis,” said Stevens. Jan and her husband and co-owner, Kent, pride themselves on maintaining Pet Ranch not only as a prosperous business, but as a generous member of the community, by being active with and giving to charities and nonprofit organizations. Pet Ranch sponsors several little league sports teams and has been a long-time supporter of Mothers against Drunk Driving and Golfers Against Cancer. More recently, the business has begun sponsoring a Miniature Schnauzer rescue operation at the store on the third Saturday of each month. “There's a benefit to being heavily involved in the community,” said Stevens. “Everyone around here knows that if they're running some sort of charity, they can come to us for a donation or for some kind of gift to use in an auction. One thing that's important for small business owners to remember is you can only be a part of the community if you act like part of the community.” Jan's parents, Jim and Joan Brown, originally opened Pet Ranch in Humble in 1978. When they retired in 2000, the Stevenses, who had been working there since almost the very beginning, bought Pet Ranch and have been running the thriving business at its current location ever since. “It's been a pleasure to serve the community these past 35 years,” said Jan. “We embrace the opportunity to continue to serve and open our arms to customers.” More information, visit petranchinc.com.
