Dreams come true at Dream Doors and Windows

Dream Doors and Windows is a locally owned and operated business located in Humble. Owned by married couple Debra French and John Hilt, the business sells and installs doors and decorative windows, catering to both the local communities and the Greater Houston area. Dream Doors was founded in September of 2006 and holds true to their motto “We’ll make your dreams come true.” After French and Hilt first started their business, they were given a loan from a satisfied customer to help them and were able to pay it back within nine months. The couple works in a partnership, with French managing the sales and accounting, and Hilt in charge of operations and door installations. French said that communication and knowing each other well play key roles in running their business, seeing as all their time is spent together. French has a background in accounting, having worked as an accountant at General Electric and Hilt has a background in door and window installation, starting in 1973 when he got out of the military. In the beginning, French worked as a teacher and had a period of time where she was working for both a school and the business, but eventually left her teaching job to fully dedicate her time to helping manage Dream Doors and Windows. French and Hilt do not have employees that work for them, but carefully select their subcontractors, one of which helps Hilt do the installations. Dream Doors and Windows works closely with customers trying to figure out the best way suit their needs and requests. French said that many customers will come in with a specific request, such as a certain color, and Hilt will work with them to figure out how to meet their expectations. With over 2,000 doors to choose from and three manufacturers, Dream Doors and Windows offers a diverse selection for customers and have done door installations for several businesses in addition to homes. French and Hilt both take pride in how hard they have worked to get where they are, and believe that although they run a successful business, they are not much different than anyone else in the community. “We’re just average people,” said French. “We just try to give a good quality product at a good price.” French said the business thrives on feedback from customers and referrals. They have many repeat customers and have even received letters and thank-you notes. They encourage people to give them positive reviews online as well, putting faith in their customers to help them maintain their honest reputation in the area. “In the beginning we advertised,” said French. “Now it’s more word of mouth.” Hilt said he likes working in this location due to the large amount of business that they get for door installation. “I like the community and the people,” said French.
