Maplebrook Elementary School celebrated the spirit of the ‘wild west’ with a school-wide rodeo hosted by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Throughout the day, each class participated in 16 different demonstrations and activities that were led by experienced historians and professionals. These events included the history of western wear, calf scramble, Bubbles the Clown, along the Chisholm Trail, western dance, roping, arts and crafts, and more. Volunteers also brought in farm animals including a horse, cows and chickens so students could experience ranch life. “Since a lot of kids don’t have the opportunity to see farm animals and go to the Houston Livestock Rodeo, we brought the rodeo to them,” said Assistant Principal Annette Nevermann. And the kids absolutely loved it. It was probably one of the most exciting days we’ve ever had on our campus in my 10 years of working at Maplebrook."
