Congressman Ted Poe

Congressman Ted Poe is honorary chair for the 10th anniversary of the “In the Pink of Health” luncheon.
The announcement was made by Tim Baker of Independence Bank of Kingwood, president of the sponsoring Northeast Hospital Foundation.
“It is fitting for Congressman Poe to be named honorary chair during our 10th anniversary celebration,” Baker said. “He’s a long-time supporter of breast cancer awareness and a supporter of our foundation and Project Mammogram. He’s also a strong supporter of the “In the Pink of Health” luncheon and has attended most of our annual luncheons.”
The luncheon will be held Oct. 20 in the grand ballroom of the Houston Airport Marriott at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Project Mammogram, a beneficiary of the annual luncheon, provides free mammograms to Lake Houston residents who qualify.
During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month last October, Poe, who himself is battling leukemia, reiterated his support for breast cancer research in a speech on the floor of the House of Representatives.
“As a husband and father of three girls, I support funding for breast cancer research, screening and treatment programs,” Poe told House members. “I am an advocate for organizations that are dedicated to educating women about early detection by practicing regular self-breast exams and scheduling regular mammograms. Their tireless work is an inspiration and a reminder that we must keep up the fight until there is a cure.”
As honorary chair, Poe will salute neonatologist Angel Munoz, M.D., the luncheon honoree. He also will celebrate the luncheon’s anniversary will a special congressional proclamation to the luncheon for outstanding service to the Lake Houston community.
The luncheon speaker is Stephanie Parke, a resident of The Woodlands, dentist, wife, and mother of three children, who was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in 2013.
“Previous luncheon speakers have talked about surviving cancer,” said Baker, “but Dr. Parke talks about ‘surviving survival.’”
Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor Melissa Wilson of FOX 26 will once again emcee the luncheon.
