Celebrating diversity among students, faculty, staff and the community is the goal of Lone Star College-Kingwood’s annual International Education Week, Nov. 12-15. LSC-Kingwood’s Office of Student Life (OSL) and the Intercultural Center will host a myriad of activities that will educate the audience on different cultures, ideas and lifestyles. “The celebration of International Education Week is important because it allows individuals to immerse and familiarize themselves on various cultural backgrounds. This week will encompass many areas, but most importantly, it is a time for all to be educated internationally and globally,” said Kristen Wilkes, Intercultural program coordinator. “It also allows for people to share their intercultural experiences and how those experiences have since shaped their lives.” International Education Week will kick off with the community invited to a notable presentation by art professor Mari Omari on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Music Instructional Building Recital Hall. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, five faculty members will host a panel discussion on their different cultural backgrounds at 12:30 p.m. in the Student-Conference Center (SCC). This event will be  followed by an Around-the-World Trivia. On Thursday, Nov. 15, there will be a Kingwood Stars Talent Show at 12:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Theatre. Later that evening at 6 p.m. in the SCC, the public is invited to an International Coffee Hour with a panel discussion on foreign exchange and living abroad in Germany, Guam and South Africa. Additional programming throughout the week will involve dance performances and an ethnic dinner. “International Education Week is designed to increase student involvement in intercultural discussion and raise awareness of the importance of international exchange, business and education,” said Tracie Ring, OSL program manager. LSC-Kingwood student clubs involved in planning this year’s events are the Intercultural Student Organization, the Muslim Student Association and the Spanish Club.
