Massive 'Ranch Party' promoters caught trespassing

An anonymous tip helped authorities foil a massive outdoor party planned Oct. 6 on a Huffman landowner’s private property, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Teenage organizers promoted the party to hundreds of people on social media websites and were expecting an estimated 4,000 or more party-goers to show up at an open field that Saturday in the 4400 block of Ramsey Road, HCSO reported. Three of the organizers were arrested on the private land the day before the planned party at around 1:30 p.m. after the tipster alleged that a large-scale party was going to take place there the following evening. Christina Garza, HCSO media relations manager, said when deputies arrived at the location Friday afternoon they found the lock on the gate to the property had been cut. Nineteen-year-old twin brothers Shawn Butler and Dashawn Butler were found on the field along with a juvenile suspect and arrested for misdemeanor trespassing. The property owners told police they did not permit anyone to use their land and gave deputies permission to pursue criminal charges, according to Garza. Deputies convinced one of the twin suspects to post a message on his social media web page alerting would-be attendees that the party had been called off. Garza reported that the message partially stated: “The Ranch Party is cancelled! The Harris County Sheriff’s Department are 100% aware of this party and will be in full force in the Huffman area…” Humble ISD officials notified parents Oct. 5 that a “ranch party” may take place somewhere in the area and explained how such parties organize. “Students purchase wrist bands through PayPal accounts to gain entrance,” the Humble ISD alert said. “It is also our understanding that prior events in the area have drawn crowds of several thousand people, including students from all over the Houston area. Each event is promoted using YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. We have reason to believe that illegal activities (underage drinking and drug use) have taken place during the events.” Both Butlers made $1,000 bond.
