The Rotary Club of East Montgomery County has two important announcements for the month of October. The guest speaker for its Oct. 23 meeting will be Kenneth Magidson, US Attorney for the Southern District of Texas, an area covering the greater Houston area, down to Brownsville and McAllen. Magidson has previously served as Harris County District Attorney and chief of the Narcotics Division of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. Magidson received his JD from the South Texas College of Law in Houston. The meeting will begin at noon in Hofbrau’s Steakhouse in Porter. In addition to hosting US Attorney Magidson, the Rotary Club of East Montgomery County will also be adding a bench to the site of its Veterans Memorial, located at the EMCID complex. The memorial itself was completed last fall with four granite monuments for each of the branches of the military. “The memorial’s surroundings are so serene,” said Gary Lemley, memorial project co-chairman. “It overlooks the fountains and pond. We thought it would be a perfect place to add a bench and sit down and take in the peaceful atmosphere.” Community members are encouraged to add to the memorial by purchasing a $75 brick paver engraved with a veteran’s name. For more information, contact the project co-chairmen, Lemley at 281-689-8500 or Jerry Denzlinger at 281-399-9476.
