Family Time honors Martinez

FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center kicked off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the Second Annual Purple Ribbon Luncheon. The event honoring past Women of Achievement recipients in all categories from 1990 to 2012, and announcing the 2013 Woman of Excellence, was held at the Kingwood Country Club Sept. 26. The “Evelyn Walters - Woman of Excellence” award for 2012 was presented to Robin Martinez. This award, which is bestowed only on past Women of Achievement recipients, is in recognition of their valuable contributions “above and beyond.” “It was a total surprise,” said Martinez. “I was not expecting this at all, and I am truly honored.” Guest speaker Alexandria Houston, the reigning Miss Texas Plus America 2012, whose platform and passion in life is to raise awareness of domestic violence, said her goal is to create survivors not victims. The event included a silent auction, wine pull, table-decorating contest and a live auction to find a home for a puppy rescued from the Houston Animal Shelter, which was led by State Rep. Dan Huberty. Carole Covey became the proud, new owner of the four-month old Chihuahua mix. Sponsors for the event included The Tribune, Lone Star Mailing & Printing, Planet Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Humble, MTEC Companies, Inc., Meinholz Motor Freight, State Rep. Dan Huberty, The Kingwood Area Republican Women, A Grand Affair, Cheryl Johnson Promotions, Kingwood Women’s Club, Mr. & Mrs. Doug and Julie Scherr and Flowers of Kingwood. Members of the luncheon committee were Cheryl “CJ” Johnson, Chair; Cherrie Ledoux, Co-Chair, Halene Crossman, Chris Parker, Susan Meinholz, Judy Cox, Janet Huberty and Robin Martinez. FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center is a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1977.
