New blog for women just launched The Tribune Newspapers are featuring a new blog created by community celebrity Diane Blanco. The official launch of the new “Lipstick Digest” blog was held at Deerbrook Mall on Nov. 12 during the Scentsational Event in the cosmetics department at Dillard’s. Blanco said she is having a wonderful time with the blog and is presently exploring where she is going with it. Blanco named the blog, “Lipstick Digest” with the tag line, “We know … we tell” – but only good things that help women and their families have a better life. Previously, Blanco penned the “Over the Edge” column for another newspaper. She also wrote a newsletter for women, called “Woman to Woman” and published it for three years while living in Corpus Christi. “It was basically exactly what I am doing now in my blog. I like to share information with other women that I think will be of interest to them. I write about fashion, food, movies, books and magazines, shopping, beauty, safety, travel, the home, health and wellness, and try to interject a little lightness and fun into each blog. I love to read books and magazines. There are so many wonderful magazines that most women do not have the time to read. I read a huge variety of them and look for the most interesting and informative articles and I condense them for my readers. I keep them very current so if they want to read more, they can still find them on the news stand,” said Blanco. Currently, Blanco is writing about Christmas shopping ideas and suggestions to help them save money. “If I have seen a great sale, I share,” she said, adding, “We all need to save money where we can.” Blanco said the start-up is going much better than she would have imagined. “I have been picked up by Google Adsense, so I am making a little money on advertisements on my blog. Since this little blog was only “born” in September, I think it is doing great,” said Blanco. Blanco said she writes entries in the blog every single day. “I love it. It really is my passion. I love it when I get e-mails from my readers and they share ideas with me,” she said. “My target audience is certainly women. I have readers from 25 to 93 – including my mother-in-law,” she added. Blanco is not a native Texan but has been planting roots here for nearly two decades. “I am a native Alabamian from Mobile. I married a man in the oil business so we ended up in Texas. We have been in Kingwood for almost 20 years,” said Blanco. Blanco recently retired as director of college relations at Lone Star College Kingwood, so public relations and marketing are her business strengths. “I work for Pete Hinojosa, Jr., a national speaker and trainer for both the corporate and educational environment. I handle all his marketing. I am also assisting Dillard’s in Austin at the Galleria of the Hill Country with their Harvest for The Holidays. I will be part of that event, Nov. 19 and will launch my blog there as well,” she said.
