Family seeks donations to help defray cost for donor

Two years ago, Naomi Brunette was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). This type of kidney disease left Naomi, a shy and quiet 15-year old from Humble, in need of a kidney transplant. After years of searching for a donor, she has finally found a match from her aunt, Holly Campbell, of Arkansas. “It’s been difficult for Naomi,” said her mother, Michelle Brunette. “She is hanging in there. She never complains. Naomi is always positive and loves to laugh.” The insurance company will cover the surgeries for Campbell; however, she will need to take an unpaid leave of absence from work for about six weeks. Additionally, she will incur expenses traveling to and from Arkansas for the surgery. The Brunette family is seeking donations to help offset the cost of these travel expenses as well as her monthly bills while Campbell is out of work. Michelle Brunette also asks for the community to “say a prayer for Naomi and Holly on the day of their surgeries,” scheduled for July 28. Naomi and Campbell will be in surgery for approximately three to four hours each. The total time for the operations will be six to seven hours. “She is very fatigued from the kidney disease,” said Naomi’s mother. “She will feel better as soon as she wakes up from the surgery.” After Campbell’s financial needs are taken care of, the remaining funds will go toward Naomi’s post-surgery care. This includes follow-up medical procedures and prescriptions. A prayer vigil will be held the evening before the surgery on Monday, July 27, from 5-10 p.m. at Lamb of God Lutheran Church. “This is exciting and we are grateful,” said Michelle Brunette. “We can’t wait until it’s all done.” Donations can be made through Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Humble, where Naomi’s father, Mark, is the pastor. Checks can be made out to the church; “medical” should be written in the memo section. Donations can be mailed to 1400 FM 1960 Bypass Road E, Humble, Texas 77338. Donations are tax-deductible.
