– First United Methodist Church of Humble serves as program host – The First United Methodist Church of Humble hosted JUMMP (Junior High United Methodist Mission Project) at their church the week of June 15. “JUMMP is a nonprofit mission organization that helps junior high youth become servant leaders,” said Jack Matthews, community relations director for JUMMP. More than 120 youth and sponsors gave up a week of their summer to go to towns outside their local community as a mission project to help fix up homes for the elderly and the disadvantaged. Exciting work for youth and a great way to make a difference. Some of their work included: scraping and painting; yard work; replacing windows and screens; repairing siding; building porches, stairs and wheelchair ramps; patching roofs or whole roof jobs. The project is open to youth who have completed sixth through eighth grades. A registration fee is required to participate in JUMMP. The fee covers supplies and volunteers work for thanks and gratitude. Participants in JUMMP come from churches across Texas. Volunteers and sponsors from FUMC of Humble will be joining other churches around Texas, in Lufkin, the first week in July for their JUMMP mission project. FUMC of Humble is an “outreach mission -minded” community of faith. Groups within the church sponsor opportunities to participate in outreach projects that impact the community and the world. These projects include a wide range of opportunities so volunteers are sure to find a meaningful way to serve. Membership in the church is not required to enjoy the fellowship that comes with the church’s outreach mission. For more information, go to www.fumc-humble.org.
