The Bill Cantrell Recovery Fund Golf Tournament continues to accept last-minute registration for the Friday, March 27, event at the Atascocita Country Club. A registration fee of $75 per individual and $300 per team includes a continental breakfast, range balls, golf cart and lunch buffet. The breakfast and registration officially begins at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at 8:30 am. In addition, non-participants can simply eat lunch for $20. Closest to the Pin, the Longest Drive, as well as a Tiger Drive highlight the competition with an awards ceremony taking place at the All-American lunch at 1 p.m. Bill and Diane Cantrell own Golf Plus Gifts, known for exquisite professional golf memorabilia. Several golf fanatics throughout the local area have decorated their homes and offices with their rare golf items. In May, 2008, Bill Cantrell was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer that requires extensive treatment. The Cantrell family, known for their remarkable affiliations and donations to charities, will be the beneficiaries of proceeds for his battle against lung cancer. A collaborative effort of friends, including tournament organizer Sevala Sadic and Trish Oliva have worked countless hours attempting to make the tournament a special and meaningful event for all participants and the Cantrell family. “The Cantrells have been a dear family to me. I’ve been with them since Bill was first diagnosed. They always help people and it would be truly special to help ease his pain. They deserve to be helped and the Recovery Fund looks forward to the tournament,” Sadic said. Recently, Cantrell’s scan showed remarkable improvement, but the financial obligation to cover such a treatment generates considerable expenses. Medical insurance does not cover the cost of the treatment. “Bill and Diane truly are a dear couple. They have done so much for people over the years through their involvement in the chamber of commerce and willingness to make charitable donations,” Oliva said. A live and silent auction features a variety of specialty items, including two seats to the Bayou Terrace Saturday, April 4, the most popular entertainment venue at the Shell Houston Open, located on the 17th green. Additional items such as autographed golf items from Golf Plus Gifts, extravagant works of art, gift certificates from local restaurants and the Lake Houston Family YMCA represent other items available at the auction.
