– Practicing an attitude of gratitude – Keller Williams Realty Northeast is a perfect example of a charitable heart that reaches out in the spirit of family helping family in the Kingwood Market Center/East Houston Business Center. From the international division to local market divisions, KW Cares is one of the key elements of Keller Williams culture, assisting associates and their immediate families when faced by hardships due to emergencies by providing both financial and non-monetary support to those in need within the market center or the local community. Lead by senior team leader Lisa Dempsey and team leaders Bill Custer and Karen Cox, KW Cares recently hosted their annual charity event. The Denim & Diamonds New Year’s Eve Gala raised $20,000 for the FamilyTime Crisis and Counseling Center. FamilyTime is a nonprofit organization which provides free crisis intervention, counseling, support groups and legal advocacy to victims of crime including family violence, sexual assault, child abuse and a shelter for women, The Door. “We believe that our real job is making a positive difference in the lives of others,” said Dempsey. “At Keller Williams Realty Northeast we achieve that every day in a variety of ways. It looks different for each person we serve. For our clients, it may be helping them to find their dream home or to sell their current home so that they may begin a new journey in their lives. For our agents, it is providing the world-class training and education needed to succeed in any real estate market and by being a team of agents working together to achieve a higher standard in our industry. For our community, it is giving back to the place we call home through volunteerism, fundraising and supporting community interests.” Dempsey said, “Keller Williams Cares is a natural extension of our belief system and is simply a part of our company’s culture. It is the vehicle we use to support the needs of our agents in times of crisis through financial and emotional support. Keller Williams Cares also allows us the ability to raise funds for our local nonprofits. Over the last five years our agents and their families have raised more than $118,000 for local nonprofit organizations through our annual gala events. There is no way to calculate the man-hours spent accomplishing this, but it is tremendous. We are proud to be able to give back.” According to Dempsey, Keller Williams Cares went into action immediately after Hurricane Ike came through this area in September. Agents who were displaced from their homes or needed to purchase generators were wired funds to assist them within 48 hours of the disaster. “The agents in just our office have received more than $36,000 in direct financial assistance as a result of issues related to Ike,” Dempsey said. KW Cares (international and local) provided financial assistance to 150 Keller Williams families who’s lives were interrupted by hurricanes Gustav in the Gulf States Region and Ike in the Texas-South Region last year.
