A gathering of red-vested team captains, just two days before the big Travis McCormick Kleenwood Day Jan. 24, focused on the schedule and safety rules for the event. The luncheon was held at the new Kingwood Chamber of Commerce office where Sparky Nolan, chamber president, introduced Ted Thornell, administrator of Regent Care Center, as this year’s event sponsor for the second year in a row. Thornell joined Regent Care Center five months ago and said he was eager to carry on the tradition of sponsoring Kleenwood Day. “We feel that we are honoring the residents at Regent Care Center by sponsoring the event because our residents are from this community,” said Thornell. “We sponsor the Kleenwood Day Kick-Off Luncheon, the Red-Vested Luncheon and the ‘after party’ following the event. We also purchase trash bags and supplies.” Rick Alspaugh, owner of Alspaugh’s Ace Hardware, covered details of the event schedule with team captains and stressed “safety first.” Photo: Red-vested team captains gathered for a pep-rally luncheon and to finalize plans for Travis McCormick Kleenwood Day 2009 on Jan. 22.
