New Kingwood library to benefit The monthly Kingwood Chamber of Commerce luncheon, held at the Nathaniel Center, focused on the new Kingwood Library. Everyone attending the luncheon was asked to bring a book to donate to the Friends of the Library Kingwood. FOLK is working to raise funds to supplement the opening day collection of books for the new library. Houston City Council Member Mike Sullivan spoke about the importance of the library. He said his top project after taking office was to make a new library a reality. “The new library is three times larger than the current one. It will be located in the wooded area at the southern end of Bens Branch Drive and Bens View Lane,” he said. Benito Guerrier, of Kirksey Architects, gave attendees a brief overview of the library. “We began the study more than a year ago. We wanted to keep with the theme of the Livable Forest in the design scheme. We designed the library as a tree house with trails in the wooded area surrounding the building,” he said. The library will be constructed in the woods. The windows of the library will be open to the woods to give patrons a view of the forest. The library will be a two story structure with separate rooms designated for children, teenagers and community group meeting areas. The new library is scheduled to open in 2009. In other news, Sparky Nolan, president of the Kingwood Chamber of Commerce, said the Chamber plans to move to their new office in Kings Harbor in January and invited members to “come by for a visit.” Nolan also announced Kleanwood is scheduled for January.
