Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department celebrates new fire station

A new state-of-the-art facility will open its doors for a public open house Sept. 21. The two-story, Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 3 boasts more than 10,000 square feet and will initially host one pumper engine. The $2.5 million facility designed by Kingwood architectural firm Joiner Partnership Inc., was built with a tax-exempt construction loan, according to Bob Kelshaw, AFVD public information officer. “The station is constructed to withstand winds of up to 100 miles per hour,” said Kelshaw. “We also have hurricane shutters available to put in place if needed.” The facility has mens and womens quarters, a training room and large kitchen. The fire station is located at 19219 Oak Timbers Drive. The open house be held Sept. 21, 2-5 p.m.
