Writing is a hobby for Dan Price, and “Bounty Hunter” will be his first published book. This fiction novel is set in the 1800s and will appeal to anyone, young or old, who loves westerns. Expect to go back to the American Old West with this read, where Bounty Hunter Dan Jennings gets in a tangle with outlaws, Indians, and romance. Dan has a knack for rounding up wanted outlaws, but his pursuit of a killer named Blake Monroe leads him to the ultimate test. Sure, Dan has high hopes after meeting Jennifer Blackburn, a rancher’s daughter, but little does he know what lies further along his journey. He suffers at the hands of Apache Indians in order to prove his courage to not only the tribe, but to White Feather, whose bond with Dan creates a love conflict. Cowboys roamed the western plains back in the olden days but have left a big influence in Texas and sparked interest in author Dan Price, who grew up in Seminole. Price taught school for 40 years and recently retired from Humble ISD after 19 years. He was a basketball coach at Kingwood High School and now works as a driving instructor. It took Price six months to complete “Bounty Hunter,” but that was something he did during his spare time. “It’s very relaxing. I like to create and write; it’s just a lot of fun,” said Price. “I write spontaneously most of the time. I start a sentence and then add to it and create characters along the way. Somehow a story develops. With ‘Bounty Hunter,’ I just started with a man lying on his belly in the broiling sun having been shot off his horse by an Apache. The story developed from there. I’m told that method of writing seldom works, but it works for me.” His style may be different, but it is sure to entertain. Price has always enjoyed westerns. Some of his favorite authors include Clive Cussler, an adventure novelist, Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour, both known for their westerns, and Robert Ludlum, writer of thrillers such as “The Bourne Identity,” which has been made into a film. But Price has other writing interests. “I love mysteries and children’s stories,” said Price. He has finished a second book to be published, “The Murders of Kate and Ellen,” a detective story. Price has also written several animal stories for children but none submitted to a publisher.  Price said that “Bounty Hunter” is in the final edit stage and should be released sometime in August.  Dan Price has two sons, Chad and Clay, and currently lives in Porter.
