Lone Star College System Leadership North Houston honors Sullivan, Mingoia The Lone Star College System Leadership North Houston honored Darcy Mingoia and Mike Sullivan during its 19th annual graduation and awards dinner held May 15. The event was the conclusion of the 9-month program for Class XIX which began in September. Harris County Tax Assessor- Collector Mike Sullivan was also recognized with the Leadeship North Houston Alumni Distinguished Community Leader Award which is presented to an alumnus who goes above and beyond, has the quality of empowering and inspiring others, and has made significant contributions in the North Harris County community. Sullivan, who was selected from five finalists, received his associate of arts degree from LSC-Kingwood in 2011 and is a graduate of Leadership North Houston Class VI in 2001. He is a Kingwood resident, a former Humble ISD School Board member and a former Houston City Council member. Mingoia was presented the John Pickelman Leadership North Houston Fellow Award for her impact of work and outstanding leadership qualities that benefit the entire community. Mingoia, executive director of the Lone Star College-Foundation, helped raise more than $630,000 for student scholarships during the foundations recent StarGala 2014. Mingoia is a graduate of Leadership North Houston Class V in 2000. I cannot think of two more deserving people, said Ray Laughter, the colleges vice chancellor, external affairs. Darcy and Mike's efforts help pave the way for future generations to find success and carry on the charge of leadership. We are lucky to have such strong advocates for our area. There were 27 participants in Class XIX and they now join the almost 600 alumni who are learning more about key issues facing the community, developing relationships with other leaders in the North Houston area, making a difference in the future of the community in which they live, and emerging as leaders rather than followers.
