The Huffman ISD Board of Trustees called to order the Feb. 24 regular meeting to discuss Texas Public Schools Week activities and the 2020-2021 school calendar.
The meeting was kicked off by presenting awards to the Rodeo Art winners from the Huffman Livestock Show and Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Student Nick Taylor presented awards for the reserve/grand champions of the Huffman Unified Livestock Show. The Huffman Livestock Show grand champions and reserve champions were also recognized for their distinct achievements.
Dr. Joel Nolte then discussed the fourth-cycle attendance reports. He relayed that the district is hovering at about 94% of attendance for this time period.
Nolte also reported that Huffman ISD will celebrate Texas Public School Week from March 2-6.
“Hargrove High School will be making several social media posts and share student experience quotes from students, too,” he said.
Huffman Middle School will send out announcements through School Messenger regarding pictures of what the students are working on in their respective classrooms.
“Falcon Ridge Elementary will be hosting several events, including an Open House and Family Engagement Night Tuesday, March 3. This event will include PK-2 from 5-6 p.m. and 3rd-5th grades from 6-7 p.m.,” said Nolte.
Many citizens may be aware that the district voted to adopt Option C for the 2020-2021 Academic School Calendar. See the district website for more details at huffmanisd.net.
To close out the open session meeting, David Carpenter discussed the e-Rate network switch replacement actions and budgetary considerations. “The best value proposal was $292,978.92. The federal e-Rate program will cover 85% of that cost, meaning the district would need to cover the amount of $43,964.84 in the 2020-2021 budget for the project.” The board recommended taking actions not to exceed $44k.
Carpenter rounded out the meeting by providing the board and all attendees with an update on the Huffman Middle School chiller plant and a recommendation to enter into a contract with DT Construction.
The next regularly scheduled Huffman ISD meeting will be Thursday, March 26, at 6:45 p.m. in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 24302 FM 2100 in Huffman.
