Kingwood High School ~ Symphonic Band along with Director Destry Balch

While some people are trying on swim suits or ski boots for the upcoming Humble ISD spring break, the Kingwood High School Bands are busy preparing for their trip to New York. Trip Chair, Christina Trotter (band parent) and Director Destry Balch, have been planning the details of this once-in- a-life time experience for over a year.

On Sunday, March 12, 2017 the Kingwood Bands will perform in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. After the concert they will have a few days to enjoy the sites of the famous city. They will tour the 911 Museum, visit the Statue of Liberty, attend a Broadway show and top it off with a Dinner Cruise in the Hudson River with sights of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge and New York’s iconic Manhattan skyline.

There will be 2 free dress rehearsals that are open to the public. Please plan to attend one of these to show your support for our Kingwood High School Bands. Show dates and times are: Sunday, March 5 from 4:00-5:00 pm and Monday, March 6 from 6:30-7:30pm. Both shows will be in the KHS Auditorium.

There are a total of 194 band students and chaperones who will be making this trip. Mr. Balch always strives to give the students an opportunity to play on a unique national stage. Past trips have included the Rose Bowl Parade, Lincoln Center, the Veterans Day Parade in San Diego and Pearl Harbor. When asked ‘How do you get to Carnegie Hall’, Mr. Balch responded with the famous quote, “Practice, Practice, Practice!!”.
