Lake Houston Area Chamber to honor 60 area educators on October 18 at Teachers of the Year luncheon

The Lake Houston Area Chamber will honor teachers from Humble ISD, schools east of I-45 in Spring ISD, area private schools and Teachers of Excellence from Lone Star College at the Teachers of the Year luncheon presented by Light of the World Christian Fellowship on Tuesday, October 18 the Humble Civic Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sixty teachers will be honored for their work in education at the event. The selection process took place in the spring with one educator from each campus selected by their peers as that campus’ Teacher of the Year. The superintendents from each school district and the president of Lone Star College will recognize each of their teachers with an award of appreciation.

Dr. Elizabeth Fagen, superintendent of Humble ISD will speak at the event to honor the educators of our children. Born and raised in Iowa, Fagen was the daughter of a public school educator. Naturally, she spent many evenings and weekends with her mother at school events.

"Education is something that is a part of who I am, and really always have been," Fagen said.

In 2016, Humble ISD's reputation for outstanding schools that serve the whole child attracted her to the district. She and her husband Matt, an engineer, have two school- age daughters. They love the Lake Houston Area and its longstanding reputation for supporting education.

Sponsors for the luncheon include Platinum Sponsor Mathnasium of Humble, Award Sponsor Community Resource Credit Union and Gold Sponsors Joiner Architects, Walden on Lake Houston and Waste Connections of Texas.

The deadline to register for the luncheon is Friday, October 14. The cost is $30 for Chamber members and $35 for guests. After the deadline, registration is subject to availability and will be $35 for Chamber members and $40 for guests. To register, go to LakeHouston.org or call the Chamber at 281-446-2128.
