The Sacred Heart Catholic School in Crosby honored 30 veterans, family, and current members serving in the United States military on Veterans Day. “The primary focus of this year’s program was to highlight the reasons behind America’s wars, past and present, and how we most often go to war to help our friends,” said Bridget Meyer, one of the programs coordinators. Veterans who attended the ceremony, and family members of those deceased, received special recognitions and a pin to commemorate the occasion. Sacred Heart School has patriotic roots, with over 50 percent of the students having family members who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces.  The Crosby High School JROTC, led by Sergeant Tim Meadows, presented our nations colors before the program commenced and attendees listened to guest speakers: Bob Jurek, Clint Williams, and Jeremy Phillips, all who are local residents and veterans.  In addition to the celebration on Veterans Day, Sacred Heart School partnered with the Crosby Ladies Auxiliary for their third annual “Shower our Soldiers” program.  This program collects items such as toiletries, candy, books, and other items to help out our troops and boost moral. The items are then packaged and sent to men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This year, the Zachry Community Involvement Committee, headed Brian Lockwood, joined in the crusade and made a significant donation to the program.  Sacred Heart students added a “home town” touch by including cards and letters to service members that will receive packages.  The Crosby Ladies Auxiliary is accepting recipients for their “Shower our Soldiers” packages.  If you know of a soldier overseas, email Jean Slovak at This email address is being protected from spambots.
