Event to promote safe celebration for AHS graduates Atascocita High School parents are organizing the third annual Project Graduation. The celebration event for the Class of 2010 will take place on May 29 with the help of parent volunteers, community leaders and business owners. Local leaders, neighbors and friends are asked to help support this safe and memorable drug-and alcohol-free event for the senior class. Every graduating senior is invited to celebrate in an all-night “lock-in” at the high school, where the halls of AHS will be transformed into a magical party from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. A variety of activities and entertainment are planned, including a DJ, hypnotist, magician, photographer, games, crafts and much more. Drawings for prizes and scholarships wrap up the festivities, which are chaperoned by adult volunteers. “We are seeking your donations in the form of prizes, gift certificates, food and financial sponsorships,” said sponsorship chair Karen Peterson. “There are several ways to give and several levels of sponsorship. A formal, signed receipt will be mailed to your company for tax purposes.” Peterson said the 2010 graduating class is the first class that has gone to AHS all four years since the school opened in 2006. AHS Project Graduation is a self-supporting program sponsored by parents and the community and receives no funding from the school budget. It is a certified 501(c)(3) charitable entity, thus all donations are tax free. 2010 Project Graduation officers are: Suzanne Kuhlman, president; Karen Martin, co-president; Rachel Jones, vice president; Kristi Young, co-vice president; Holli Sherrard, treasurer; Karen Peterson, co-treasurer; Susan Hankin, secretary and Kim Norton, co-secretary. General meetings take place the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to attend the event are $50, which include a T-shirt, all events and food. Seniors who perform 10 community service hours get in free, and receive a bonus of 10,000 Eagle Bucks. Several fundraisers will take place throughout the year, including the AHS Project Graduation Golf Tournament, which will be held Nov. 23 at Walden Country Club. Additional information about the golf tournament will be released soon. The Prom Fashion Show Fundraiser will be held Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. Senior female and male models are needed. In addition, “Buy a Brick” contributions are $40 for a 4-by-8 or $60 for an 8-by-8 brick. “Also, we are selling raffle tickets called the ‘Triple Split’ for $50. The winner gets $3,000; the senior who sold the winning ticket gets $3,000 and $3,000 will be given out in prizes on Project Graduation night. The drawing will be Dec. 11 and they do not have to be present to win,” Peterson said. Sponsorship levels range from $100 - $4,000 and up, and must be received by May 1, 2010 to be included on T-shirts and on the attendee CD. Ways to participate include financial contributions. For example, The Tribune is giving AHS Project Graduation a 50 percent discount on ads; products or services such as items for college students and/or working graduates; prizes in the form of gift cards; gift certificates and food donations for the all-night party or end-of-year senior picnic. Donations may be mailed to AHS Project Celebration – Sponsorship Committee, 13300 Will Clayton Parkway, Humble, Texas 77346. Make checks payable to Atascocita High School Project Celebration. Project Graduation continues the tradition of a safe, event that began in 1979 in Maine when seven alcohol and other drug-related teen deaths occurred during the commencement season. By 1986, Project Graduation activities were held in every state in the nation and two Canadian provinces.
