Cutline: The United Methodist Church of Atascocita steeple construction has now been completed. Atascocita United Methodist Church (AUMC) has a new addition and invites the public to attend two open houses. The church has a new sanctuary, new stained glass window and a steeple that ascends 80 feet into the sky. The new Wesley Sanctuary will seat approximately 550 for worship with room for expansion in the future. The new music suite will accommodate the adult choir, three children’s choirs, a men’s ensemble, hand bell choir, youth guitar and vocal groups, and a host of other specialty music groups. “We anticipate exciting new opportunities to bring the music arts to the community through our new music suite. We are just beginning to explore the potential that this new space has to offer,” said senior pastor Andy Noel. Traditional worship services will be held every Sunday morning at 8:30 and 11 a.m. in the Wesley Sanctuary. The church’s original sanctuary, now called the Asbury Sanctuary, will continue to host the Connexion praise and worship service. “We are moving this worship service from 9:30 to 11 a.m. so that we can have a common Sunday School hour for all worshipers at 9:30 a.m.,” said Noel. The Weekday Learning Center, offering daily educational programs for children from 12 months to 5 years old, will continue to have chapel every day in the Asbury Sanctuary as well. The church’s new addition also includes a common area that will be utilized for coffee and fellowship between services as well as a gathering space on other occasions. “This space has unlimited potential for outreach and ministry to our community. I cannot wait to see how God will use this space as we settle in,” said associate pastor Kristin Bogart. AUMC will be hosting two open houses: Sunday, Dec. 1, from 3-5 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 9, from 6-8 p.m. The community is invited to tour the new facilities. Sunday morning worship is also open to all who which to attend: the traditional worship will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by Holy Communion; the Sunday School and Fellowship Hour will be at 9:30 a.m.; and the traditional worship will be at 11 a.m. in the Wesley Sanctuary with the Connexion Praise Worship in the Asbury Sanctuary.
