The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints finished it’s new addition with a meeting house in Summerwood. The building held its open house Sept. 8, presenting guests with the various community outreach activities and programs of organization. This 21,000 square-foot Summerwood facility cost $3.8 million to build and offers a variety of programs and resources for families and youth. “Churches in the community always help to remind us of the values that are faced with difficult choices everyday. They need the influences that our churches provided,” stated Houston Summerwood Stake President, James Banks. The Houston Summerwood building will serve church attendees located in the Houston Summerwood stake, with nine congregations, three of which are polyglot congregations. This building is located North of West Lake Houston Parkway on Beltway 8. “The construction and completion of this beautiful building is very exciting as it reflects the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in North East Houston areas,”Eva Armendariz, Assistant Director of Public Affairs said. Upcoming projects in the fall will include the semi-annual stake conference on Oct. 20-21, the stake- wide Fiesta celebration on Sept. 22, along with weekly activities for youth. With 29 family history centers in the greater Houston area, 59,800 members and 72 buildings, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is continuing its growth locally and nationally. “ The center is a safe place where youth of all denominations can enjoy activities, build friendships, strengthen moral standards, and learn how to be more like Jesus Christ. We hope our friends in the community will join us here in activities and service,” said Janet Coleman, the Public Affairs Director for the Summerwood Stake.
