BUSINESS OF YEAR DEADLINE NEARS
There is still time to nominate successful small businesses for the Lone Star College System Small Business Development Center Advisory Council 28th Annual Small Business of the Year awards. Deadline to submit a nominee is Aug. 1. Finalists – three from each of the six LSCS campus areas – will be honored Nov. 20 at the awards banquet. One winner representing each college area will be awarded. Nominations may be made by individuals, businesses and organizations at lonestar.sbdcnetwork.net/lonestar/Small_business_of _the_Year.asp. Small business owners are chosen based on leadership, entrepreneurial spirit, business growth and success, and a meaningful contribution to the community.
WEBINAR FOR AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE ACT
Each week, small business owners can learn the basics of the Affordable Care Act and how they can enroll in small business health insurance marketplaces through the Affordable Care Act 101 webinar series, sponsored by the Small Business Administration and Small Business Majority. Other topics discussed include insurance reforms, the small business health care tax credit, and employer shared responsibility provisions. According to the Lake Houston Area Economic Development Partnership, here are some of the recent commercial development projects in the community:
Shops at West Lake Houston - Fidelis Partners is building a retail center on 65 acres at the northwest corner of Beltway 8 and West Lake Houston Parkway in front of Summer Creek High School. The shopping center will provide 600,000 square feet of commercial retail and will include a movie theater and a Kroger as grocery anchor. Twentcommercial pad sites are currently available. June 2014 Firehouse Subs –This new location in Humble opened in June and is located in the Townsen Crossing Center on FM 1960 west near Wal-Mart and the newly constructed Kroger. Bahama Buck’s - Located at 5444 Atascosita Road, Suite 108, opened in April. Valero Corner Store - Big Diamond has purchased two acres on the north side of FM 1960 just west of Townsen Blvd. in Humble. The seller, 5P Development, was represented by Todd Edmonds of Colliers International and Mark Davis of Davis Commercial Real Estate. Kingwood Enclave - Houston-based Davis Commercial Development is currently in the process of securing For Sale, Lease or Build-To-Suit tenants for an office building site located near 19700 Kingwood Drive, just once block west of Kingwood Medical Center. This project features eight individual building sites that can accommodate buildings from 3,000 square feet to 6,000 SF and can be combined to accommodate up to 20,000 SF. Domino’s Pizza - Announced it has leased 2,500 square feet in the Atascocita Plaza Shopping Center. Fish Tales - Fish Tales has two new locations in Atascocita and New Caney. They have a crawfish boil trailer that is perfect for catering for special events or as fundraisers for nonprofit organizations in the community. The Fish Tales in Atascocita is located on FM 1960 at the intersection of Pinehurst Trail right before the Atascocita Branch Library and the New Caney location will be at 20126 Loop 494. APAC Customer Services - APAC, a global leader of Customer Care business process outsourcing services and solutions including sales, customer care, technical support and back-office services, recently announced it has added 500 jobs in its Humble service center. The Humble office is located at 3200 FM 1960 West. For more information visit apaccustomerservices.com. Mattress One -leased 4,200 square feet in West Lake Crossing at FM 1960 East near W. Lake Houston Pkwy. Shoppes at Kingsgate - Schreer Partnership recently purchased the 153,000 square-foot Kingwood Shopping Center where Steinmart is located; it now will be called the Shoppes at Kingsgate. Long-term contracts with Steinmart, the dry cleaning business and many of the other existing businesses within the new Shoppes at Kingsgate have been secured. They plan to make each of the buildings have a unique look, change the lighting and landscape to transform it into a gated shopping center that is very user-friendly. Renovations, which have begun, will be complete by mid-2014. Courtyard by Marriott - Located at the intersection of Northpark Plaza Drive and the U.S. Hwy. 59 Service Road at entrance of Kingwood; opened January 2014. The 115-room hotel features The Bistro, a 200-person meeting room, a separate boardroom for conferences and meetings, and employs more than 35 workers.
