- Treasured restaurant settles into a new location -
The iconic Hunan Garden sign that graced Jenny Wang Hou’s family restaurant for 35 years is firmly in place at its new home — in the Northpark Plaza Shopping Center just off the Highway 59 northbound feeder road.
Hunan Garden now is located at the “front” of Kingwood, between H and R Block and Union Kitchen — and just behind Texas Roadhouse.
Wang Hou, daughter of the founder of the restaurant, announced on Facebook that her new 2,700-square-foot space passed health inspection on May 26 and has resumed curbside pickup and delivery.
“We hope to open the dining room later this summer after we finish remodeling,” she wrote. “Thank you, Kingwood, for making this happen.”
Wang Hou was forced to close her doors May 16 when she couldn’t reach an agreement with SDI Realty Advisors, a Houston-based real estate and development company that purchased the shopping center in March.
SDI is demolishing the restaurant to put up a breezeway as they rehab and update the Kings Crossing Shopping Center, what most Kingwood residents call the “old H-E-B Center.”
The treasured restaurant’s devotees wrote almost a thousand posts of support and a Facebook petition gathered more than 6,400 signatures.
“We will rebuild better,” Wang Hou posted on Facebook.
